Filmonic: Robert Downey Jr. Is Not A Fan Of The Dark Knight

  • HotDogFingers · 1 year ago
I understand where he's coming from and, while I loved The Dark Knight, I have to say that I'm glad he said what he did. I always feel like the odd one out after watching a smart, intelligent movie like TDK. Everyone goes on and on about the inner meanings and the crazy-smartness of it, and then there I am, watching the movie and constantly asking myself what's happening, or why is he doing this, etc... I basically understand TDK but I spent a good majority of it feeling stupid. I still don't get the Asian man with the money scheme.

Jeez...I just lost ALL my respect for him. He is jealous. That's it. End of story. Period. When it all comes down to it and all is said and done, it's the plain truth. I understand that people have different opinions, but here's something...It's obvious he is jealous. You can say, "But, oh! that is just his opinion!", but please, people, look at reality. Robert Downey Jr. just starred in a superhero comic book movie the SAME year The Dark Knight came out. Obviously, The Dark Knight is making millions and SMASHING the box office...unlike Iron Man...He's jealous because he thought he was in this "incredible, epic" superhero movie no one could top...Did he HONESTLY think he could've topped something as extraordinary as The Dark Knight? I guess so...Perhaps he knew this would've happened all along, but decided to act surprised, and he also decided to throw a little pity party for himself. Another thing...Is he honestly THAT DUMB? Sure, The Dark Knight is probably the most complex, intelligent superhero comic book movie ever made, but it is UNDERSTANDABLE. It just goes to show that actors these days REALLY KNOW NOTHING...Just because a superhero comic book movie has never been made like The Dark Knight, it doesn't make it DUMB. Hey, Robert, just because it's a comic book superhero movie, it doesn't mean it doesn't have to be serious, intelligent, and possess a FANTASTIC story, along with outstanding actors who fit the roles perfectly, amazing special effects, and a haunting soundtrack...Anyways, could it be that Robert is just saying this out of jealousy and spite? Yeah, well, Robert...sorry your movie sucked...Sorry your movie had no plot or any REAL story...Sorry the acting was lame and corny...Get over it...Suck it up, and accept the fact that The Dark Knight is a TRILLION times better than Iron Man ever will be...God bless Heath Ledger...He didn't act the role of the Joker, he BECAME the Joker...Oh...don't worry, Robert, I understand...I mean, if I were in your position, I would be crying, complaining, and cursing, too...No, not really, actually... Jeez...It just makes me so angry that he thinks he can say that when he played a crappy role in a boring, pointless movie...Thank God for Heath Ledger...An actor with REAL talent and depth who actually understands the roles he plays...who gets inside the character's minds and makes it his own...

Yeah! I mean the nerve he has! ...by golly!

    Man.

This is soo outrageous. Everybody should love The Dark Knight. It's a mathematical rule. What's that you say? Twenty minutes too long? The uncharacteristically easy manipulation of Harvey Dent? AHHHLALALA *Covers ears*

(This is coming from someone who loved The Dark Knight way more than Iron Man: Chill....out. I really doubt Robert Downey Jr. is jealous. His movie was no slouch at the box office and he has a franchise and can probably now be considered a part of the A-list. I think he just authentically is too impulsive for something as deliberately paced as The Dark Knight and thus disliked it.)

Well, ti has been said before: drugs don't come out easy!

I think you guys that said he was jealous are just pissed that he didn't enjoy the "epic" TDK. He speaks no crap and he just flat out told it how it was for him. And I agree with him. I didn't understand a lot of different things in that movie. And yes, Iron Man was better than TDK.
  • Rob · 1 year ago
You mean he flat out told everyone that he's... "like the dumbest motherfucker that ever lived," and can't understand a movie that, if you actually pay attention and listen to, will explain everything for you? Jr. makes it sound like TDK was a fucking David Lynch movie.

he's entitled to his own opinion.

Maybe it was the bad, clichéd dialogue and pointless exposition?

Maybe it was the dumb script holes like Batman leaving Joker in a room full of innocents?

Maybe it was the cheesy Batman voice by Bale?

Maybe it was the use of silly CSI type technology?

Maybe it's the fact that Nolan still really can't a action scene well?

Maybe it was the so-typical-it's-bad plot with the two boats?

Dark Knight had some great points and overall was a damn fine movie, but not really as "epic" as some like to think.

it's funny that Robert Downey Jr. said the Dark Knight is too sophisticated when he himself tends to sound so sophisticated

I loved both Iron Man and The Dark Knight. They were both great movies in their own way. Downey Jr. didn't get it or like it ... that's fine. Though, his statement does seem to have a hint of bitterness which he should just keep to himself. I mean "F@k DC Comics"??? It's almost laughable he would say that. I mean what does that have to do with anything? I like Robert Downey Jr. a lot as an actor due to Iron Man and Tropic Thunder (he was the ONLY good thing in the movie ... though all his good scenes were in all the trailers), so I was a disappointed to read about his reaction. It's not that he didn't like it (DK isn't perfect, but does gets better with each viewing), but rather it's how small he made himself sound. Iron Man did great in the box office, a sequel is underway (YES! Thank you Favreau and Marvel!), and was one of the more highly critically acclaimed movies of the summer ... just be happy with that Bob.

Yeah, that statement did deflate my enthusiasm for Robert Downey Junior ... a little. I still think he was absolutely aweosme as Ironman and TOny Stark, and I think maybe his statement was more tongue and cheek than anything serious. I mean he does have to maintain this "bad boy" image though I really don't think he should try so hard. He should just have his movies do his talking. I hate it when actors/actresses get so big that they overshadow their characters ... that's when I usually stop watching their movies. *Koff*Tom Cruise*Koff*

AMEN! The Dark Knight blew, and was fucking boring. I'm glad someone is calling it. Downey is my new hero. Iron Man was the better movie by far.
  • esophisticate · 1 year ago
Guess there's a reason why he's called 'downey'
  • esophisticate · 1 year ago
They call him downey for a reason folks!
