Filmonic: Robin Hood writers talk script changes

LASam · 3 weeks agoIn that original version of "NOTTINGHAM" which they sold amidst a crazed bidding war here in Hollywood, the Sheriff and Robin Hood were NOT THE SAME PERSON. That was a new twist added to the mix during the long drawn-out development process which the script went through after Ridley Scott signed on to direct it. The original version was simply told from the perspective of the Sheriff of Nottingham character. Robin Hood wasn't really an all out villain in the piece either, more a ne'er-do-well rogue type. The big villain was Guy of Gisborne. The story involved English politics of the time, with supporters of Richard Lionheart going up against supporters of Prince John, who was plotting to keep his brother from ever returning home. A bunch of powerful people in Hollywood -- studio executives, A-list directors, bigshot producers, etc. -- wanted to buy and make that original script. Funny thing is the ones who actually got it, Universal, threw most of it out. Sounds like that was mostly Ridley Scott's idea. Hopefully his movie will be worth all the rewrites!
